Third-Party Event Fundraiser: 2019 Pulte Homes Golf Tournament

By | Announcements, In the News, News, Third Party Events

Pulte Homes Raises Over $30,000 for HomeAid at Charity Golf Tournament!

HomeAid Northern Virginia Executive Director and CEO Kristyn Burr addresses Pulte Homes’ golf tournament participants during the 19th hole luncheon, thanking them for their support and the company’s donation of $30,000+, which resulted from the tournament.

Third-party charity fundraisers are getting to be a very popular way to show support in a big way for HomeAid, and this month, we were honored to accept a $30,000+ donation from Pulte Homes, who designated HomeAid as the beneficiary for their recent company golf tournament.

“The value of these kinds of fundraisers is really three-fold,” HomeAid Northern Virginia Executive Director and CEO Kristyn Burr said. “The funds raised may be the most visible result, but equally impactful is that from the perspective of our small staff, these efforts quite literally expand our capacity since other organizations take on the event planning and hosting responsibilities, which we know is a heavy lift. Third, they’re helping spread awareness and increase education about our mission and local homelessness to an entirely new group of people, many of whom we may not be able to reach if it weren’t for our common connection with the host company. We’re so grateful for the support and humbled by the gift.”

Thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, and supporters at Pulte Homes, who made this golf tournament such a huge success!

Third-Party Event Fundraiser: 2019 Van Metre Cornhole Challenge

By | Announcements, In the News, News, Third Party Events

Van Metre Cornhole Challenge Raises $30,000+ for HomeAid!

Faith Boruta, Van Metre Companies, and Kevin Rabil,Van Metre Homes, with the 2019 winning team, the JMU Dukes, Jake Ruppert and Ryan Carr. The JMU Dukes won in a 21 vs. 20 game against the Intercocktails, last year’s champs. Congrats!

On Saturday, October 5, the Van Metre Companies Foundation hosted the 8th Annual Van Metre Cornhole Challenge as part of the Brambleton Fall Festival, and 30 teams raised more than $30,000 that was donated to HomeAid Northern Virginia. Van Metre has been supporting HomeAid through this tournament for five years now, with the total donations nearing $300,000. This year, we’ll focus funds on one of our current renovation projects to help close the gap between funding, donations, and costs.

Cornhole Challenge Founder Kevin Rabil started the tournament with the goal of making a big impact on smaller, local organizations that help people in the communities where employees work and play.

HomeAid Northern Virginia’s Cilda Pretorius and Kristyn Burr attended this year’s Van Metre Cornhole Challenge to help spread awareness about HomeAid’s mission and thank supporters!

“Van Metre has a long-standing partnership with HomeAid – from our participation as Builder Captain on several HomeAid projects to Project Playhouse to special fundraisers – and we were happy to choose HomeAid as a beneficiary of The Cornhole Challenge again this year,” Rabil said. “It just makes sense for a builder to partner with an organization that’s providing newly renovated housing stock and program facilities for people without them, and we’re proud to continue to be a part of HomeAid’s efforts.”

Thank you, Van Metre Homes and the Van Metre Companies Foundation for your tireless support, and congratulations on another successful Cornhole Challenge!

Third-Party Event Fundraiser: 2019 Toll Brothers Golf Tournament

Toll Brothers Charity Golf Tournament Yields $60,000 for HomeAid

Kristyn Burr & Scott Canan

The idea behind third-party charity fundraisers is a simple one: an organization plans and hosts a fundraising event on behalf of a charity, and then the charity benefits from the planning efforts and the funds raised. But at HomeAid Northern Virginia, which is no stranger to planning and hosting events, we know that carrying out a successful fundraiser is no simple task—it takes a ton of work! So, it is with extra gratitude that we say thank you to Toll Brothers, which recently chose HomeAid as the sole beneficiary of their June 24 golf tournament and, as a result, raised $60,000+ to support our mission! We are also incredibly grateful to John Darvish, our presenting sponsor, who put in an enormous amount of time and effort to help plan the event. All of the funds will go toward renovating and building homes and programmatic facilities that serve those experiencing homelessness and, in turn, helping rebuild lives.

“In addition to the dollars raised – which of course is tremendously important to our ability to carry out our mission – it also means that these organizations are, in a way, helping to expand our capacity by taking on the planning and hosting responsibilities themselves,” said Kristyn Burr, HomeAid Northern Virginia Executive Director and CEO. “They are helping spread awareness and increase education about our mission and local homelessness to an entirely new group of people. We not only end up with greater funds, but we gain more attention and more supporters from people who we may not be able to reach ourselves. It’s hard to put into words how incredibly beneficial these events are, and we are so grateful to Toll Brothers and to the many other organizations who have selected HomeAid as a beneficiary of their efforts. It’s just an enormous, humbling gift,” she added.

Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who made this golf tournament such a huge success!

“The decision to hold a charity event and donate all proceeds to HomeAid was an easy one, said Scott Canan, division vice president, production and customer care, Toll Brothers. “As a board member, I’ve witnessed first-hand the struggles that people in need endure on a day-to-day basis. What HomeAid does for so many people across this nation is nothing short of amazing. Toll Brothers instills six important values in all of us: ‘Be the Best,’ ‘Do The Right Thing,’ ‘Take Care of Each Other,’ ‘Delight the Customer,’ ‘Create Value,’ and ‘Honor Our History.’ By applying these values to everyday living, it’s not hard to understand why giving back to the community is so important to us.

“I encourage all Builders to hold events for their local charities,” he added. “By supporting those less fortunate, we are helping to strengthen, empower, and build communities that give back. In time, others will follow, and this act of kindness will spread like wildfire. What a great thing to happen!”

Special thanks to our friends for making this tournament such a success!

Third-party charity fundraisers are getting to be a very popular way to show support in a big way for HomeAid, and in June, we were honored to accept a donation of over $25,000 from K. Hovnanian Homes, who designated HomeAid as the beneficiary for their recent company golf tournament. This donation not only provides critically important funding, but it also helps introduce HomeAid to potential new supporters!
